| ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN MEAT FOOD SAFETY. The Animal Science Department (ASCI) within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure track position with a split appointment in the ASCI Department and the Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, CA. Starting date is negotiable but preferred start date is September 15, 2017. The position involves teaching courses in meat food safety, microbiology, HACCP, meat science, and disciplines appropriate to the expertise of the individual and needs of the departments. The establishment of a scholarly, externally-funded, applied research program is expected. The successful candidate will establish active collaborative relationships with other university faculty and researchers; leaders in the meat food industry, students, and the general public to provide information and leadership related to meat food safety issues. In addition, candidates should be able to provide practical experience and individualized student-learning opportunities such as experiential classes, undergraduate and graduate research projects and student internships. |
Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, presentations, scientific affiliation) as part of his/her professional development. Service activities will include participation on department, college, and university committees and instructionally related activities. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Particular attention will be afforded to candidates who have industry experience.
